Description
Glossy black and white photograph with a 3/8" white border on the top, 1/"4 white border on the bottom and right. In the lower right corner of the photograph, there is an archaeologically recovered candlestick and an anthropomorphic fluted style pipe with reed stem, both of the type manufactured by Moravian potter Gottfried Aust between 1755 and 1771. A burning candle is held by the ceramic candlestick and wax drips down the side. A book and a pair of wire-rimmed, 18th century style glasses are emerging from the shadows in the center bottom of the photograph. All rest on a fabric covered base. The background is entirely black.
There are seven spots along the left edge, beginning in the middle of the photograph and extending to the top, where the gloss finish is worn off, as if drops of water spoiled the surface.
