Dear Mr. Stockton:
The work at Bethabara is going well. This week we uncovered the cellar of the Store, and another cellar not shown on the 1760 map. We also uncovered a burial of a dog or wolf (we think), and the cellar of the small building adjoining the Tailor Shop. We also located and excavated the north bastion to the fb rt, and with each of these bastions I become more sold on the idea that they should be rebuilt.
We will need to purchase more file cabinets for artifacts, but I feel that this will be money very well spent since these rare objects whould have a good home until they can be displayed in museums or made available for study by historians and archaeologists. For this reason I plan to purchase four more cabinets, which will cost about $250. for all four, but this will provide quite a lot of proper storage for these fine objects.
I am enclosing the payroll and subsistence vouchers for this week, and you will notice that Jewell’s is much smaller than usual. This is due to the fact that she injured herself shoveling dirt on the site last Saturday and has been in the hospital part of this week, and has worked on glueing pottery and the laboratory work only part of the time this week. She will be back on the job full time next week.
Sincerely,
SSouth [signed]
