Dear Mr. Stockton:

We have had a good week at Bethabara doing a number of things that had to be done. We found the postholes for the bell house and were surprised that they were four and a half feet deep. Apparently they meant to support that bell. We moved the piles of dirt in Mr. Reich’s yard preparing to do more work there next time. We worked on the business manager’s house at the hog pen and exposed it so that next time we will be able to get photographs and drawings. The best discoveries as far as museum items are concerned was in the good garbage dump behind the kitchen near the pottery. We found a number of fine things, cuff links, a slip decorating funnel, 14 pipes in a pile, etc. and were pleased with the results.
I plan to take a vacation in June, the first I have had since coming to work for the state in 1956. In July I will return for intensive work at Bethabara, and look forward to that time.

I am enclosing a payroll voucher for John Miller, who I think, will be back with me in July, as well as my wife who will be doing the cataloging of the artifacts which has not been started as yet.

The following is the subsistence for this trip.

2 men for five days at $5.00 each per day $50.00

Sincerely,

SSout [signed]
